The oxidative stress theory of aging posits that the accumulation of oxidative damage to cells and tissues is a major driver of the aging process. Antioxidant supplements are thought to intervene in this process by scavenging harmful reactive oxygen species and preventing oxidative damage. The evidence for the efficacy of antioxidant supplements in slowing the aging process is mixed, but some studies suggest that certain supplements may be beneficial. More research is needed to determine the effects of antioxidant supplementation.
